Waste Audit Technician

This is a per diem, project based opportunity. The Waste Audit Technician will be required to
travel to project locations as needed to complete the mission including the items listed
below. Project scheduling is somewhat flexible to ensure projects align with the technician’s
personal schedule and availability as well as the project location’s schedule. Most projects
are scheduled mid-week and last one evening.

Job Description

The Waste Audit Technician (“WAT”) will perform a variety of waste audit services for clients throughout the United States, including representing Blue Planet with the on-site client point of contact, managing contract and temporary labor personnel, manage sorting, collect and record PRE and POST weights, and recording the audit process thought notes, photographs and other observational data. This opportunity is based on individual project needs and requires the candidate to have a flexible schedule and ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally, including overnight travel.

Responsibilities:

•    Demonstrate ability to improvise, adapt, and overcome obstacles as they arise in order to achieve the mission.
    Collaborate and meet as needed with the Blue Planet Team and Waste Audit Operations.
    Professionally represent Blue Planet while on site at client locations, and while interacting with client team members to collect waste audit data.
    Demonstrate an ability to manage subordinates team members, including temp and contract labor personnel.
    Assist temp and contract personnel with sorting non-hazardous trash and recycling.
    Demonstrate ability to schedule travel logistics, including air and ground transportation, as well as housing (hotel) within company budgetary guidelines.
    Participate in frequent waste audit fieldwork throughout the US at various facility types including industrial, commercial, municipal, and institutional.
    Collect detailed audit data including PRE weights, POST weights, CONTAMINATION weights, observational data of the waste stream in motion, waste and recycling equipment, and team personnel engaged in the audit process, including sorting process.
    Assist when necessary in preparing for fieldwork including determining waste management streams on site, regional acceptance criteria, contamination levels, and waste audit set-up.
    Maintain administrative duties including but not limited to expense submissions, time tracking, and photo logs.
    Follow Blue Planet health and safety protocols when completing fieldwork.
    Travel, as projects require, within the US as needed, including overnight travel as needed to complete the project.
 

Responsibilities:

•    Experience within the waste industry, or related field is preferred but not required.
Ability to work as a part of a fast-paced team.
Some knowledge of waste auditing and sustainability is preferred but not required.
A working knowledge of the Apple iOS / MAC Operating System, including Pages, and Numbers and Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word is preferred but not required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to complete detailed analytics and reports.
Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with clients, peers and external stakeholders.
Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills.
Self-driven, independent thinker who is highly motivated and possesses an intrinsic passion for quality and process improvement.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with strict deadlines.
Willingness to travel often. Must have access to reliable transportation with valid Ontario G-Class driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.
Willingness to drive company Sprinter Van.
Ability to lift, at a minimum 50lbs+

Compensation:

The Waste Auditor Technician will be compensated based upon the project size, including reimbursement for all approved related audit expenses, including travel and meals. The potential range per project is $750 to $2,500 per project. Most audits begin around 4:00pm and last anyway from 2 to 9 hours. The Waste Auditor shall act as an independent contractor.
